The new Ford Edge large SUV offers a comprehensive range of camera- and sensor-based driver assistance technologies designed to make journeys more comfortable and less stressful, and to help drivers avoid or mitigate the effects of collisions, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go and Lane Centring; Post‑Collision Braking; and Evasive Steering Assist.

Available in stylish Titanium, Ford Performance-inspired ST-Line and upscale Vignale variants, the new Edge features technology to keep drivers and occupants connected while on the move, including FordPass Connect embedded modem and Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system.

Luxurious features available to enhance comfort and convenience include a customisable digital instrument cluster; heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel; a wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones; and a 1,000-watt, premium B&O Sound System.

A new 238 PS bi-turbo variant of Ford’s 2.0‑litre EcoBlue diesel engine delivers the power of a larger capacity engine alongside the optimised fuel-efficiency of a smaller engine, and combines with an intelligent new eight-speed automatic transmission for effortless cruising.

The new Edge also enhances Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system with new all-wheel drive disconnect, which can automatically switch seamlessly between two-wheel drive and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive as required, to optimise handling and help further improve fuel-efficiency.

“Helping customers effortlessly deal with stop-start traffic using our most advanced driver assistance technologies to-date, and cruise in comfort supported by our refined and fuel-efficient new 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox, the new Ford Edge is our most compelling offering yet for the ever-growing numbers of European customers migrating towards SUVs,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.

A smart SUV for a smart world

The new Ford Edge is offered with a range of sophisticated Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies designed to enhance protection, driving and parking, and make journeys more comfortable, less stressful and safer.

ACC with Stop & Go and Lane Centring helps the vehicle maintain a comfortable driving distance from vehicles ahead and helps reduce stress during long road trips by helping keep the vehicle centred in its lane.

The new Stop & Go feature enables the ACC system to bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic using up to 50 per cent of total braking force, and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than 3 seconds. For stopping durations greater than 3 seconds, the driver can push a steering wheel button or gently apply the accelerator pull away.

Lane Centring technology monitors road markings and can apply gentle but discernible torque to the steering system to help drivers stay centred in their lane whenever the ACC system is activated. Designed to support drivers at speeds up to 200 km/h (125 mph), the technology will deliver visual and audible warnings if it detects a lack of steering wheel input from the driver.

New Evasive Steering Assist is designed to operate at city and motorway speeds, and uses radar and a camera to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead and provides steering support to enable drivers to manoeuvre around a vehicle if a collision is imminent.

Post-Collision Braking helps to reduce the impact of a potential secondary collision by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when an initial collision event is detected; slowing the vehicle can potentially lessen injury to occupants and further damage to the vehicle.

Further new Ford Edge driver assistance technologies that use cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors to reduce stress for drivers include Adaptive Front Lighting SystemBlind Spot Information SystemGlare-Free High BeamIntelligent Speed LimiterLane Keeping AlertPre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Driving and parking in towns and built-up areas is made more comfortable and less demanding with features including Cross Traffic AlertFord Adaptive Steering, Active Park Assist with Perpendicular ParkingSide Parking Aid and Park-Out Assist that helps drivers pull out of parking spaces.

Connected and comfortable interior

FordPass Connect embedded modem technology turns the new Ford Edge into a mobile WiFi hotspot with connectivity for up to 10 devices. In addition to enabling occupants to receive Live Traffic updates and stream entertainment on the move, FordPass Connect allows a range of convenient features via the FordPass mobile app, including:

  • Vehicle Locator, helping owners find their car in sprawling shopping mall car parks
  • Vehicle Status, for checking fuel levels, alarm status, oil life and more
  • Door Lock Unlock, to remotely allow access to your Edge
  • Remote Start, for Edge models with eight-speed automatic transmission*

An available wireless charging pad nestled in the forward media bin enables cable-free charging of compatible devices, and Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system – compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ – enables drivers to control connected smartphones, audio, navigation and climate using voice commands and an 8-inch colour touchscreen.

Customers can further upgrade their audio experience with a premium B&O Sound System that has been specially tuned for Edge. The system uses a 10-channel Digital Sound Processor to ensure even sound distribution throughout the cabin with 1,000 watts delivered through 12 high performance speakers. A surround sound option delivers an even more enveloping audio experience.

The new Edge also offers a new configurable digital instrument cluster with animated analogue-style instrumentation that allows drivers to personalise the layout of the speedometer, rev-counter and vehicle information displays to suit their own preferences – and even adjust between one of seven colours – while maintaining a simple, elegant appearance. Further available comfort and convenience technologies include a full length panorama roof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.

With harmonious, high quality materials and cutting-edge design, the spacious new Edge interior exudes a premium feel. A redesigned centre console features a stylish and ergonomic rotary gear shift dial for the eight-speed automatic transmission that frees up space and allows easier access to the wireless charging pad, while enhancing the vehicle’s modern, sophisticated feel.

An electronic parking brake button in place of a conventional parking brake lever also helps maximise space and houses adjustable cup holders and a deep storage box with enough space for books, toys and tablets. An even larger swing-bin glovebox sits under the dashboard, and further stowage is available in the instrument panel top.

Powerfully sophisticated performance

Ford Intelligent All-Wheel Drive provides a more secure footing for Edge drivers, especially in slippery conditions, by measuring how well the vehicle’s wheels are gripping the road surface and delivering a seamless transition of torque between all four wheels.

The new Edge debuts an enhanced version of the technology, featuring new all-wheel drive disconnect, which uses a form of artificial intelligence to take readings from dozens of sensors around the car and can determine if Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is needed in just 10 milliseconds. By shifting to two-wheel drive when additional grip is not needed, the feature helps to save fuel.

Ford’s new 238 PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine also delivers optimised fuel-efficiency, alongside enhanced low-end torque, and noise, vibration and harshness.

A small, high pressure turbo and larger, low pressure turbo work in series at low rpm for greater responsiveness and enhanced torque. At higher engine speeds, the larger turbo works alone to

produce the boost required to deliver peak power. The result is smooth and linear acceleration performance and a more comfortable driving experience.

The 238 PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo engine is combined with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and Ford’s new eight-speed quick shift automatic gearbox to deliver from 6.7 l/100 km fuel efficiency and 175 g/km CO2 emissions.**

The eight-speed automatic transmission has been engineered to further optimise fuel-efficiency and deliver responsive performance and smooth, swift gearshifts. In addition to the centrally-mounted rotary gear shift dial, wheel-mounted shift paddles enable drivers to manually select gears. Tuned to meet European driving expectations, the transmission also features:

  • Adaptive Shift Scheduling, which assesses individual driving styles to optimise gearshift timings. The system can identify uphill and downhill gradients and hard cornering, and adjust gearshifts accordingly for a more stable, engaging and refined driving experience
  • Adaptive Shift Quality Control, which assesses vehicle and environmental information to help adjust clutch pressures for consistently smooth gearshifts. The technology can also

adjust shift smoothness to suit driving style

Equipped with Auto Start-Stop as standard, Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine also is offered for the new Ford Edge as:

  • A 150 PS version combined with eight-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive that delivers from 5.8 l/100 km fuel efficiency and 153 g/km CO2 emissions
  • A 190 PS version combined with manual six-speed gearbox and Ford Intelligent All-Wheel Drive that delivers 6.0 l/100 km fuel efficiency and 156 g/km CO2 emissions

Ford Adaptive Steering technology continually adapts the steering ratio according to vehicle speed, to make the new Edge easier to manoeuvre at low speed and in towns, and more comfortable for highway driving.
