Vospers, one of the South West’s largest car dealership groups, has continued to raise thousands for regional charities in the last 12 months, despite the pandemic impacting their normal fundraising activities.
Employees from across Devon and Cornwall were determined to continue giving to good causes over the last year and raised money through virtual and outdoor events. This included the Vospers annual golf day at Trevose Golf Club in Padstow that raised over £7,800 for Cornwall Hospice, Peninsula Medical Foundation and St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth.
Penny Hannah, Head of Fundraising at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “When we heard the news that we had been chosen as one of the charities benefitting from the funds raised at the Vospers golf day we were absolutely delighted.
Penny continued: “This kind and helpful donation will go a long way to supporting more local families at the most difficult time in their lives and when it matters most. From our friendly doctors, caring nurses through to all the support staff and hardworking volunteers we would like to pass on our sincere thanks to Peter Vosper and friends for their generosity and helping us during these challenging times.”
Denis Wilkins from the Peninsula Medical Foundation also talked about what the donation from Vospers will be used for, he said: “The money raised will help fund research by Professor Hanneman’s Brain Tumour Research team in Plymouth, which is being applied to the treatment of patients in Derriford’s neurosurgical unit. Thank you Vospers and your generous supporters.”
Chairman Peter Vosper said: “It is fantastic to know that the money donated will make a real difference to people’s lives.
“As a family business we are passionate about supporting our local communities, so I am extremely proud of our employees who continued fundraising despite the challenges of the pandemic.”
Peter went on to say: “As well as South West charities, we also have a long-standing relationship with BEN, and have donated over £10,000 in the last year to this excellent charity that provides support to people in the automotive industry.”
The charity sector has had a tough time over the past couple of years due to COVID-19, for many this has meant a significant increase in demand for services combined with a loss of income from fundraising.
Anna Seymour, Community Fundraiser East for Cornwall Hospice, said: “The last two years have been extremely tough for us with the pandemic bringing chaos to our fundraising plans, but despite this we managed to keep both our hospices open and admitting patients.“We were delighted to accept this amazing donation from Vospers and can’t thank them enough for thinking of us. Donations like this will ensure our end of life care is available to those patients and families in Cornwall who need us.”
