Prices and specifications for the Vauxhall Astra Electric are finally here! The Astra Electric will be available in two trim lines from launch, sporty GS and top-of-the-range Ultimate. Prices for the first ever fully electric Astra will start from £39,995. Orders are now open and first deliveries are set to arrive later this summer.
The Astra Electric will be joined by the Astra Electric Sports Tourer later this year. Providing more choice for Vauxhall customers who are looking to go electric. With the arrival of the Astra Electric Sports Tourer, Vauxhall will have a line-up of six fully electric models across its passenger car range. This is in addition to already offering a fully electric Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) line-up. By 2028, Vauxhall plans to be an electric-only manufacturer, an ambitious seven years ahead of UK Government targets.
Vauxhall Astra Electric: Design for the Electric Age
The Astra Electric carries Vauxhall’s contemporary Bold and Pure design language. Which is also found on the Astra’s petrol and Plug-in Hybrid variants. The front end is defined by the Vauxhall Vizor, a single sleek panel that houses the LED headlights and sensors. Supporting the driver aids and safety technologies onboard the Astra Electric. The nose of the car also houses the new Vauxhall Griffin logo. The Ultimate variant features upgraded IntelliLux Pixel Matrix LED units providing unparalleled lighting within the sector.
The front -end design balances both the horizontal and vertical axes to centre on the black Griffin badge. Both lowering and widening the car’s appearance. At the rear, the centrally mounted Griffin, vertically-aligned high-mounted brake lamp and the wing-shaped tail lamps have the same effect. The Griffin badge also doubles as the latch for the tailgate, which is made of a state-of-the-art lightweight composite material.
All versions of the Astra Electric come standard with 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, black on GS models and bi-colour on Ultimate versions. As well as this the Astra features a contrasting black roof and door mirrors alongside a black surround and detailing for the Vizor front end.
Interior and new technology
The Pure Panel Pro infotainment system dominates the dashboard, featuring a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central display. This creates an elegant, high-tech environment for both driver and passenger. For the Astra Electric, the latest generation of intuitive human-machine interface (HMI) displays all important functions. This includes battery charge status or range, making range anxiety a thing of the past. The important settings including climate control can be easily adjusted at the touch of a physical button.
On Ultimate models, the Intelli-HUD head-up display unit keeps eyes on the road and all models benefit from natural voice recognition. This provides a quick and hands-free way to control key vehicle functions for an added level of safety. Sitting ahead of the instrumentation is a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel inspired by the ‘Compass’ design principle.
Intelli-Drive 2.0, the latest driver assistance package from Vauxhall, makes its first appearance on Astra Electric. Intelli-Drive 2.0 adds semi-automated lane change assist, operational at speeds between 45mph and 70mph. Other features already available with Intelli-Drive include lane positioning assist, which helps drivers accurately position the car in a lane, as well as rear cross traffic alerts, which use radars on the rear bumpers to detect moving objects to the rear sides of the vehicle.
Ultimate models also benefit from Intelli-Air clean air technology and wireless smartphone charging, while the Intelli-Vision 360 panoramic parking camera and Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™ is featured as standard.
All Astra Electric models feature a driver seat approved by AGR (Germany’s Campaign for Healthier Backs) providing improved comfort and support. Ultimate takes this one step further by adding Alcantara upholstery to all seats. Comfort and convenience are then boosted by acoustic glass and additional boot and door seals which reduce interior noise levels for a calmer cabin experience.
